LEAGUE PLAY-OFF (Caldbeck, August 30th & Keswick, September 13th)

Carlisle Green 258 v Keswick 225

Carlisle Green 229 (Ben Davidson 13, Connor McKinley 10) v Cockermouth 251 (J Beck 10, J Lake 15)

Cockermouth 248 (Daniel Fisher 14, M Blackley 9) v Keswick 260 (Megan Saxton 6, Charlie Robson 9)

Carlisle, Cockermouth and Keswick, having won their respective regional leagues contested a 3-way final at Caldbeck to determine the overall league winner.

Poor weather at the end of August meant that conditions were pretty damp underfoot when Carlisle took on Keswick, Carlisle running out comfortable winners. Carlisle then faced Cockermouth but, with just four overs to go, and Cockermouth looking strong favourites, the intermittent showers that had intervened throughout turned much heavier leaving the outfield too wet to allow the game to be safely completed.

Two weeks later, and after further unseasonal weather, the remainder of the final was completed at Keswick on a glorious late summers day.

Cockermouth and Carlisle replayed the second match with the team from Sandair securing the victory that had looked likely at Caldbeck. That left Cockermouth needing to beat Keswick in the final game to secure outright victory. However, Keswick had other ideas and put on a handy score of 260.

Cockermouth chipped away at the total with Daniel Fisher top scoring with 14. However, Keswick, who had narrowly lost to Cockermouth in the League Cup the previous week, stuck to their task admirably and gained a well deserved 12 run victory that left all three teams having won one game each.

In such a circumstance total runs scored determines the winner and Cockermouth (499 in their two games) narrowly took the title from Carlisle (487) and Keswick (485), the fine margin reflecting just how evenly matched these three teams were in what was a very competitive Under 11 League.

Great Corby 274-3 v Lanercost 280-1 Evan Jones was the pick of the Great Corby batsmen, scoring 10, including two boundaries.  Everyone contibuted though, even the very young final pair who protected their wickets to help guide Corby to 274.  Lanercost's young bowlers performed well throughout, particularly opening bowler, J Waugh. Evan Jones was the only Corby bowler to enjoy any success, taking one wicket. S Harding at the top of the Lanercost order made five, including one excellent boundary through mid-on

Egremont 267-9 (Ellis Gribbin 33no Matthew Sempill 11no Jake McNally 3-0-6-4) v Whitehaven 273-5 (Jake Benson 13no) A close game with 2 evenly matched teams. Excellent batting by Ellis Gribbin which included 2 sixes.
Great Corby 235-4 v Penrith Green 216-5 A fine, all-round team performance secured Great Corby's first victory of the season. Evan Jones impressed again, taking two wickets for two runs.  Eight-year-old Jacob McAlindon hit three boundaries in an innings of 13, and took one wicket for 6 bowling legspin. Impressive performances throughout the Penrith side.  A Holliday and R Strong both made runs when the team batted first.  And there were fine contributions with the ball all the way down, R Bracken and W Porter taking wickets to keep the game in the balance until the end. A great match between two well matched teams, played in a good spirit and in front of a good crowd of parents and spectators, even though they were all wrapped up well against a chill wind
Lanercost 239 v Nunwick 271
Penrith Gold 226-6 (Matthew Boustead 11 ) v Keswick 253-5 (West 9)  A good competitive game saw keswick triumph, due to some very tight bowling restricting the penrith side to 226. A bad start to keswicks innings saw them lose 2 wickets in the first over both run outs from some smart fielding, but a mixture of solid batting and slack bowling gave a deserved victoy to the visitors
Threlkeld 205-5 v Wigton 233-8 Gabriel Carr (Threlkeld) bowled a wicket maiden,a maiden and had 1 run taken off his third over - a total of 1 run 2 wickets 2 maidens,3 overs
Workington 254-4 v Seascale 252-4 A fantastic game of juinor cricket saw Workington take the points from Seascale with a dramatic tight finish. 3 runs were required of the last ball to win. Riley Short took his opportunity with a four to see his team home. Oliver Wilson and Grant Reed got Workington of to a good start scoring well with some good running between the wicket, Wilson also hitting 3 fours. The last pair in Ben Bryden and Riley Short held their nerve to score the crucial winning runs. Seascale and their supporters played their part in a tense finish which hinged on one ball and could have gone either way.

Some really tight bowling and excellent batting from Cleator
Great Corby 199 v Appleby 264 A fine performance in the field from a young Great Corby side pegged Appleby back after Josh Brabbins (11) and Bobby Atkinson (6) gave the visitors an impressive start.  Ross Parkin and Ollie Gutteridge carried on where the previous two left off.  But wickets for Evan Jones and Ben Hetherington kept Corby in the match, along with a tight spell of bowling from James Dubarry.  Appleby finished on an impressive 264. In reply, Corby struggled to get the scoreboard ticking as outstanding bowling from first Brabbins and Atkinson kept the top order quiet. Later on Morgan Fothergill, Jack Hutt and Ross Parkin all took two wickets each to take the game away from Great Corby.  Highlights of the home innings though were two fine boundaries from Evan Jones, one a lovely clip off the legs through square leg, and some doughty resistance at the death from the very young Alex Batchelor and Conor Coveley. All in all, a hugely impressive performance from a fine Appleby side which had real strength in depth in both the batting and bowling.  Special mention to young Master Brabbins - who started the evening opening the batting before displaying a lovely, smooth bowling action to keep Corby's efforts in check.  He even finished off behind the stumps with the keeper's gloves on
Lanercost v Arthuret & Esk Conceded by Arth/Esk

Carlisle Blue v Wigton No Play - Rain
Egremont – Bye
Great Corby 268-6 v Threlkeld 263-5 Two youthful sides contested a close fought match that was in the balance until the very last over. Put in to bat, Threlkeld got off to a promising start and kept the momentum up, losing only five wickets in 20 overs and compiling a handy score. In reply, Great Corby were quickly up with the rate and scoring freely. But good, persistent bowling by Threlkeld in the later overs pegged Corby back. Corby's batsmen just did enough as Threlkeld sought in vain for one final wicket. A great game between two well matched teams with everyone on the field making a genuine contribution. Once again, Corby's Ewan Jones was outstanding with the bat, making a fluent and attacking 24.  James Lythgoe gave another fine all ound performance, making 14  and bowling with pace and accuracy.  Chris Green, Eddie Lythgoe and Joe Craggs all took their first ever wickets. For the visitors, J Robinson led the way with the bat, making 10.  But all throughout the order, Threlkeld's batters looked-sharp  and were quick to punish any slack fielding from Corby. In the field Threlkeld were well captained by Holly Cowper, who also impressed with the new ball.  Gabriel Carr bowled with pace and accuracy and was unlucky not to take wickets.

Great Corby 257 (James Lythgoe, Jacob McAlindon Evan Jones and Joe Wright all took a wicket apiece, but star of the show was debutant Nick Hodgson who took two wickets, including a caught and bowled, as well as a catch in the deep.  James Lythgoe and Ben Hetherington both scored 18 in Corby's winning innings of 257.) v Nunwick 254 (Some super batting from Nunwick.  Special mention to Fintan Simmons, who hit five boundaries in an innings of 21.  Adam Cutting and Jamie Street were also impressive, both clearing the ropes for a maximum.  Excellent bowling from Sam Mein, who almost won the match for Nunwick with three late wickets) A game full of tension, drama, excitement and lots of excellent cricket from both sides.  Nunwick set a challenging score of 254 and then pegged Corby back as Lythgoe and Hetherington threatened to take the game away.  Late wickets kept Nunwick in it and a catch behind the stumps off the penultimate ball meant the match could have gone either way with the final delivery. Corby survived and scraped home.  A fantastic match watched by a good and appreciative crowd
