Workington
Blue - Cockermouth win 4. Lanercost 68ao v Cleator 69-0 5. Penrith Gold 127-5 (Richard Sykes 31ret, Lewis Pamphilon 34ret) v Penrith Green 40-6 After a slow start by Gold due to tight bowling from Greens, some big hitting from Richard Sykes and later a whirlwind 34 in 3 overs from Lewis Pamphilon saw gold to 127. The younger Green team struggled to stay with the run rate needed, losing 3 wickets to run outs including an outstanding piece of fielding from Josh Halliwell. Well done to both teams-producing good cricket played in an excellent spirit 6.
Whitehaven v
Appleby Conceded by Appleby 7. Carlisle Blue 97-9 (B Greig retd 30, Z Jones 3 for 23) v Workington 93-9 (L Hazzard 33 retd, D Robson 28, J Freshwater 3 for 19) 8. Great Corby 115-8 (Dan Swann 33 ret, Fergus Spencer 20, Jason Israel 15, Thomas Graham 2-11, Liam Purdham 2-8) v Nunwick 80-8 (Matthew Dickson 31 ret, Scott Fisher 3-14) Great Corby were in early trouble at 18-3 before Dan Swann struck 2 sixes and 3 fours in his 33. He was ably assisted by Fergus Spencer (20) and Jason Israel (15) as the home side reached three figures. Thomas Graham and Liam Purdham both took two wickets for Nunwick. Dan Swann then bowled one opener and ran out the other, Thomas Gate who was batting well for his 10. Coming in at 6-2, Matthew Dickson led a Nunwick fightback hitting five boundaries, including a six, in his 31. A number of under 11s completed both sides on a Bank Holiday weekend and did not look out of place, in particular James Lythgoe-the home side who struck two boundaries in his undefeated innings and took a wicket when bowling.

Semi Finals (To be played
before Sunday 21st
June)
Semi Final 1. Cockermouth 62-8 (A Carruthers 26, A McGeen 3-11, M Steele 2-11) v Workington 64-9 (A Ireland 18, A Shilito 13, J Edmonson 4-13, A Grainger 2-10, A Carruthers 2-15) A green wicket contrived to producing a low scoring thriller that went to the very last ball. Cockermouth won the toss and immediately elected to make Workington bat. The visitors soon lost Jake Daniel to an indifferent shot, Liam Ryan caught behind off a misdirected pull shot and then captain Jonny Irving, bowled by Grainger to a ball that moved. Andrew Ireland (18) and Jack Whinn then moved the score on from 14-3 to 38-3 before Jack Edmonson struck with four wickets in 9 balls as the score slumped to 43-8. Andrew Shilito (13) and Jack Burgess did well to take the score up to 64-9 over the final 8 overs. Cockermouth would have been confident about knocking off such a low total in 20 overs but the wicket was still offering plenty for bowlers who put the ball on the spot, as Cockermouth had. Alex McGeen took three wickets in his four over spell and with Andrew Ireland taking the important wicket of Alex Grainger then Cockermouth found themselves in trouble at 25-4. A needless run out and a caught and bowled from Jonny Irving saw two further wickets fall at 33 before Angus Carruthers and Regan Tinnion dug in against accurate bowling from Irving (1 for 4 from 4 overs) and Shilito. With four overs remaining and Carruthers/Tinnion still at the crease, the home side needed 19 to win. Two tight overs from Ryan Clubley left 7 required from the final Matthew Steele over. The pressure finally told as first Caruthers (26) and then Jamie Ward skied shots, in pursuit of runs, and were well caught leaving Tinnion needing to hit a four from the final ball. He could only manage a single leaving Cockermouth two runs short. Semi Final 2. Penrith Gold 188-0 (Arron Pamphilon 50 ret, Joe McKinley 51 ret, Callum Burton 51 ret, Scott Lancaster 22no) v Penrith Green 79ao (Alistair Craig 39)

Final)
Workington 74-6 (A Ireland 19, J Whinn 18no, S Lancaster 2-13, L Pickering 2-13) lost to Penrith Gold 91ao (S Lancaster 19, J McKinley 16, R Clubley 3-6, M Steele 3-17, A McGeen 2-24)
Penrith batted first and were all out for 91 on the final ball of the 20th over, several batsmen making starts but no one progressing on to a big score. Scott Lancaster (19) and Joe McKinley (16) top scored whilst for Workington Ryan Clubley (4 overs, 3 for 6) and Matthew Steel (4 overs, 3 for 17) returned the best bowling figures. Penrith then struck early removing both Workington openers with the score still in single figures. They say 'Catches win Matches' and so it proved as first Joe McKinley took a good catch on the boundary to dismiss Jonny Irving and then keeper Arron Pamphilon took a superb one handed catch to remove Andrew Ireland (19). Pamphilon rounded off a good day with a further catch and a stumping. Workington were never allowed to recover by tight Penrith bowling and finished 17 runs short on 74 for 6 with Jack Whinn 18 not out at the close. Lancaster (2 for 13) and Liam Pickering (also 2 for 13) exemplified the performance put in by all the Penrith bowlers. |
